It was a March of Madness for the Cougars' hoops team

By Emily Newbold

In the sports world, the month of March is pretty busy. And here at the College of Charleston, it has been a real month of madness.

CofC's men's basketball team made it to the NCAA March Madness tournament for the second year in a row but was eliminated in the first round of 64 in a close loss to the University of Alabama.

When rumors began spreading that head coach Pat Kelsey was going to the University of Louisville, the state of our basketball program got a little frenzied.

"It's like the wild wild west out there with recruiting," said College of Charleston sports communication professor Vince Benigni. "So once Coach Kelsey was a hot commodity, after making the tournament for a second straight year, the door was open for Louisville."

Following the announcement that Coach Kelsey was leaving, CofC fans took to social media to debate the search for a new coach.

But athletic director Matt Roberts was ahead of the search, and less than a week later, CofC named Chris Mack the next men's head basketball coach.
